How To Make Your Perfumes Last Longer

This question has been asked by perfumers, perfume enthusiasts, and everyday perfume users, the answer has been long-awaited and still trumps most of the factors that affect client looking for perfumes and perfumers behind the scenes working to create and curate these perfumes for the consumers. As we have previously discussed, all perfumes are not created alike I.e., every different type of perfume has a differing concentration of perfume in them, this perfume concentration defines how long perfumes will last. Examples of different types of perfumes are as follows: -  Parfum, Eau de toilette, Eau de Parfum, and Eau de Cologne, there are actually 7 different concentrates in total but these are the most commonly used amongst perfumers.

A perfume being persistent can be both a blessing and a curse, a blessing if it’s the right fragrance but sometimes like murphy’s law suggests the perfume that we are not as naturally inclined to ends up being the one that lasts through the days and nights which is the flip side of the coin, or the curse as in our analogy. In this example, we will be looking at the Eau de toilette for the most part as it is the most used type of fragrance in the perfume industry both in creation and usage, due to the affordability of working with such a concentration. This type of perfume has between 5-15% concentration and is advertised to last for 2-3 hours although barely ever the case.

I will now be giving you a few options to make your fragrance last longer and then giving you the one that works best keeping in mind all the varying conditions. Eau de Toilette lasts almost all day when sprayed on clothes, but the pure essence of the fragrance is never the same as when sprayed on someone’s skin because your body’s heat mixed with the perfume makes for the perfect diffuser of scent. The other drawback of spraying the fragrance on your clothes means it sticks around for a while on your clothes and is hence hard to change, so unless you have a signature scent and do not want to change the scent often then this option will allow your perfume to last long.

Eau de toilette over a scent-less fragrance moisturizer is another option which is very viable if you want to maintain the integrity of the perfume by spraying it on your skin. Some thing to keep in mind with this, is to make the moisturizer cream is not too oily and is quickly absorbed. This will make sure that the scent is not heavily impacted by the cream. This will allow your fragrance to last for a good 5-6 hours without too much of a loss in its integrity.

Parfum over Eau de Toilette is a wonderful way of making your fragrance last for about 9 hours. Although this might not be the most budget friendly way to wear perfume due to the Parfum involved in this process which is the costliest of all the concentrations. The two complement each other almost perfectly the diffusive nature of the Eau de Toilette with a few spritz of the Parfum adds the depth needed to make this fragrance last long.

This is my personal favorite for optimizing and is the best way to use the fragrance over the skin, which is to apply the fragrance free moisturizer, then the duo of the Parfum and Eau de Toilette will help the fragrance last for as long as possible which is throughout the day for a good 10-12, from the time you have breakfast till the time that you cozy up in your bed.

I hope this has helped you by guiding you in the right direction as to making your perfume as long as possible.
